Dan Uggla 2b, Hanley Ramirez SS, and John Mallee at batting practice at the Cell before a Marlins vs White Sox game.

Uggla has put up outstanding numbers thus far, ranking in the top five among NL second basemen in batting average, home runs and RBI. He is making a strong case to be in Anaheim for the All-Star game in July.  Ramirez has been a force in Interleague play. In 67 career games, he is a .299 hitter with 16 doubles, 11 homers, 36 RBI and a .837 OPS.

        John Mallee, current Hitting Coordinator

        for the Florida Marlins.

        2010 Shockers Travel teams.

John Mallee along with his professional staff will help train the team throughout the winter and early spring months. John will use the same video analysis software used by the Florida Marlins and Chicago White Sox and have a complete video analysis session with each player covering their hitting mechanics. The team will practice once a week during the winter at a facility for 1 1/2 hrs per week. Each team will be limited to 12 to 13 players to insure everyone gets equal playing time.

What are the costs to participate? The cost for the 2010 season is $995.00.  This amount is much lower than the majority of travel teams in the area. This cost will allow the Shockers team to play a minimum of 25 league games along with 6 tournaments (each tournament is a 3-game minimum).

What do the players get for the players fees?

        • All participation fees for league and tournament play

        • Field rentals and umpire fees

        • Winter training facility rental

        • Video analysis session

What is the winter training program?

Players selected for the Northwest Indiana Shockers summer travel team will train a minimum of once a week throughout out the winter months.  John Mallee will coach the team until he leaves for spring training in late January. Professional training clinics will include:  Hitting - “The 6 Absolutes of a Professional Hitter”; Major league base-running concepts; 1st and 3rd Team Defense; Bunt Defense, In-fielding basics; Out-fielding basics; Catching and Pitching mechanics and drills.  Teams will follow the same training drills and practice structure that Minor and Major league teams utilize in professional baseball.
